Brookfield Winter Lights Festival to Dazzle in 2018!

Winter Lights 2018 cover

The Brookfield Winter Lights festival returns in 2018 with an exciting new showcase of light installations, projections and entertainment – all designed to leave you breathless!

From 20-30 June, the heritage buildings in Brookfield Place will be illuminated in a dazzling display of colour, light and nostalgic, multi-world adventures run nightly from 6-11pm. Inside the precinct you’ll find world-famous installations and thought-provoking sculptures such as the otherworldly Birds of Lumos, which combines natural forms with elements of steampunk to bring New Zealand’s endangered Rowi birds to life.

Festival Guide

The festival will transform Brookfield Place into a journey of art and light comprising a host of eye-catching events and installations, as follows:

  • 8-Bit World by Electric Canvas
Brookfield Place Heritage Buildings (teaser on St Georges Terrace with main projection of the rear facade)
    20-30 June  6pm to 11pm
Come with us on a trip back to the 80s and the ground-breaking era of 8-bit graphics as the team from The Electric Canvas celebrate history, heritage and technology through epic, nostalgic multi-world adventures.

  • The Light Frequency by Lux
    Brookfield Place, Main Entry Bridge
    20-30 June  6pm to 11pm
Hanging from the canopy of the iconic link bridge into the precinct, Light Frequency synchronises hundreds of LED tube lights into a gentle wavelike ripple of movement and light.

  • Birds of Lumos by Amigo and Amigo
    Brookfield Place, Heritage Square
    20-30 June  6pm to 11pm
The Birds of Lumos re-imagines the rare Rowi Kiwi and explores the ideas of conservation and technology through Steampunk aesthetics – a genre than combines futuristic fantasy, art and the mechanical design aesthetic of the 1800s.

  • Neon Invasion by Lux
    Brookfield Place, Podium
    20-30 June 6pm to 11pm
A 3D reactive installation, Neon Invasion is a giant alien asteroid that buzzes to life when someone enters its mysterious magnetic field. Nestled between the old and new architecture of Brookfield Place, is this a symbol of the future or geometric celebration of the present and the past?

  • Neon Umbrellas by Carla O’Brien
    Brookfield Place, Podium

    Brookfield Place, Podium
    Friday 29 June, 6.30pm-7.30pm

Miss Gail Force, Perth’s favourite hula hooper, invites you to witness her truly illuminated hula hooping performance. After the show festival-goers are invited to join in and take part in helping to make the festival really shine.

  • Neon Angel Wings by Carla O’Brien
    Brookfield Place, near Print Hall
    20-30 June  6pm to 11pm
Instagram this: Visual Artist Carla O’Brien again invites visitors to the festival to let their imagination take flight as they pause and pose a while in front of her Neon Angel Wings.

  • Balloons by Carla O’Brien
    Brookfield Place, Podium
    20-30 June  6pm to 11pm
As the future of the inflatable balloons falls into question with the world realising their impact on the environment, these balloons give us an illuminated alternative, that’s oh-so-Instagramable.

    Thursday 21 June, 5.40pm-6pm; 7pm-7.20pm and 8.20pm-8.40pm.
